The Garden of Remembrance, situated behind St John’s Church in Wynberg, is a place set aside for the interment of the ashes of those who have died.
The Garden is for use of all members of the Parish for the Interment (burial) of ashes of members, past members and close family of members of the Parish. Requests for use of the Garden by others must be referred in writing to the Parish Rector though the St John’s Church Office.
Ashes are buried in the Garden in a hole chosen and dug by the Parish staff. The ashes are put straight into the ground. The boxes or containers they come in are not buried and should be removed after the interment. Families may request a certain spot in the garden and if possible such requests will be met. This cannot be guaranteed.
No crosses, bowls, flowers, statues, vases or artifacts of any kind may be placed in the Garden. Arrangements can be made to place a small plaque, with the names and dates of birth and death, on a wall of remembrance in the Garden.
If a family would like to donate a plant or shrub for the Garden this must be arranged with the Garden committee who have sole right to decide what and where such items will be planted. Donations towards the ongoing upkeep of the Garden are always welcome.

All arrangements for use of and access to the Garden, as well as donations toward its upkeep, plants and the placing of plaques should be directed to the Office Administrator in the St John’s Church Office.
